The Chemistry Graduate Program of the Federal University of Minas Gerais was created in 1967 and, since then, it has been a traditional graduate program of the Brazil. The objective is providing Master and Doctoral courses to form human resources with solid knowledge in Chemistry. The general research areas are analytical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and physical chemistry. In 43 years, 337 PhD thesis and 471 MSc dissertations were defended in this graduate program. Currently, the Program has 47 faculty members and 158 students pursuing the Master Science or Doctorate degree. The scientific production of the Program is consistent in quality and quantity and reached in 2008 a number of 170 publications in SCI indexed journals, with a media of 3.5 publications/lecturer/year. About 70% of these papers have graduate students as co-authors. The technologic production is a highlight of this graduate program with ….. Patents registered between 2007 and 2009.
